I just saw somewhere that BMW is updating its naming scheme by removing the "i" suffix from its gas-powered models and reserving it exclusively for electric vehicles. This shift aims to streamline naming while clearly distinguishing between combustion engines and EVs. Historically, "i" indicated fuel injection, a feature used since 1975, but now it will signify BMW's electric lineup moving forward. Awesome right?

My 1996 540 was a "5" series with a "4.0" liter V8. Back then, identifying a BMW was simple: the first number was the series, the second two numbers were the liters of engine displacement, and the "I" stood for injection.

Exactly! BMW’s naming was so clear back then. Cool to see them bringing some of that simplicity back, with 'i' now marking their EV lineup
