I recently tested Efficient Mode on my BMW i5 during a 92-mile round trip in the mountains and I’m curious if anyone has done a longer drive (300+ miles) with it.

Here’s what I experienced:
1. Started with a 92% charge and a range of 243 miles.
2. Climbing up to 6000 feet, my range dropped quickly, but regen braking helped me recover on the way down.
3. By the end, I returned to the hotel with 65% charge and over 250 miles of range showing.

I’m planning a 350-mile trip soon and wondering if I should stick with Efficient Mode for the best results.
1. Is it realistic to aim for 270+ miles in Efficient Mode especially with speeds limited to around 60 mph?
2. How does regen braking in B Mode impact range over such distances?
3. Has anyone compared this to Personal Mode for longer trips?

Efficient Mode feels promising but I’m still figuring out its potential.

Efficient Mode is great for short to medium trips, but over 300+ miles, I’d expect some range drop-off just from battery conditioning and external factors. 270 miles is possible under perfect conditions, but unless you have a mild climate, little wind, and mostly flat roads, I’d be cautious about expecting that.

Efficient Mode should work well for a 350-mile trip, especially with speeds around 60 mph, and regen braking in B Mode will help with range recovery.

If you want the best mileage, use efficient mode as it changes the throttle and climate. If you want to play around with the steering and suspension, use personal mode. If you're not too worried about comfort, efficient mode will probably get you the most range.
