BMW's being kinda quiet about why the i5 doesn't have a frunk, but the rumor is that not enough people actually use them, so they don't think it's worth the effort. They're using the extra space under the hood for electronics and stuff, which takes up frunk room. A BMW designer also pointed out that even without a traditional engine, electric vehicles still have a motor, and the battery and its related systems require space, which can limit the room available for a front trunk.

I haven’t found it useful to unlock it from the inside every time. Since aftermarket frunks are available for the i4, I’m sure something will be released for the i5 soon.

BMW likely skipped the frunk in the i5 due to space constraints for electronics, motor, and battery systems, prioritizing function over storage.

They’ve probably realized that the trade-off makes more sense for the tech and performance they’re packing in there. Still, I bet some people will miss that extra storage. Hopefully, the aftermarket comes through with a solution!
