I recently got a 2025 i5 and am figuring out public charging. In the Chargepoint app, there’s a selection for the "2024 BMW i5 eDrive 40," but not the 2025 model, so I went with the 2024. I noticed many Chargepoint stations weren’t showing up. The only preset connector was "DC Fast Combo," but I thought the i5 supports AC J1772, so I selected that under Custom, and all the stations appeared. Is that the right move? The different charging standards are a bit confusing!

Not surprised ChargePoint hasn’t updated their database yet it’s common for charging networks to lag behind new EV releases. Your workaround using J1772 for AC and CCS for DC Fast Charging is exactly how it should work. If you run into issues double-check with BMW’s MyBMW app since they sometimes have better integration with public charging networks.

It sounds like you made the right move selecting AC J1772 under Custom, while the i5 supports both DC Fast Combo and AC J1772, ChargePoint may have limited presets for newer models. It’s good to manually select the right connector when needed.

It’s a bit of a hassle with the preset options not being up-to-date, but you’re on the right track. Just keep an eye out for any app updates that might improve the selection..
