Just stumbled on some cool news about BMW teaming up with DeepDrive to test these new “dual rotor” electric motors, and it sounds like it could really shake things up! From what I understand, this setup basically combines two electric motors into one unit. That means more torque density in a smaller, lighter package, sounds promising, right?

What’s really interesting is that this tech could let BMW go for in-wheel drive setups, where each wheel gets its own motor. Imagine the control and power that could bring! Or they could stick with a central motor setup like we’re used to, but with this dual rotor tech making everything more efficient.

I hear, the prototypes even exceeded BMW’s specs, which has me wondering how soon we might actually see this tech in a production model. Maybe even in future i5s? 🤞

Anyone else been following this? Think it could actually make it into our i5s or other upcoming BMW EVs?

Good stuff! I am excited! I am expecting serious performance gains considering the torque density and the weight down. In fact, my only expectation with every new release is that they aren't just pie-in-the-sky concepts. Can't wait for a test-drive, though!
