I've been having some really strange issues with my BMW i5's charging lately. No matter how many times I set it to charge immediately, it always reverts to a timed charge slot and shuts down charging within seconds. I've also noticed that the max AC amps keep resetting to 6A, even though I've set them to 40A.

On top of that, the charging flap has been acting really weird. Sometimes it opens fine, but other times it just won't budge. I've found that the only way to get it to work is to start the car and drive a few feet.

I'm starting to think there's something seriously wrong with my car, but I'm hoping someone else has experienced this and can offer some advice. Has anyone else had these issues with their i5?

Have you tried unplugging the charger for 5 minutes, then plugging it back in? You could also try doing a hard reset on your car.

Looks like you might be dealing with a little software hiccup. Check for software updates through the app or dealership, they could totally sort out your charging settings. And for that flap issue, swinging by a service center for a look-see might be your best bet. Good luck!

I agree with @Catman09! Have you taken the car to the dealership?

Updates? Make sure 'Immediate Charge' is set as your default in both the app and the car. Sometimes, the car and the app get confused and change the settings on their own

That’s a pain! I’d try a hard reset on the iDrive. For our i4M50, hold the power button for about a minute (3 full cycles). Also, in park, press and hold the volume button until the screen reboots three times. You could also delete the car from your app, uninstall it, then reinstall and add the car back. I had an issue where the car kept forgetting the interior color, but reinstalling the app fixed it. Give it a shot

Not sure if anyone has any advice - recently have the new bmw i5 edrive 40 touring and I'm having problems with the BMW app and Ohme charging app.
I set up the schedule via Ohme to receive the octopus intelligent go cheaper tariff but for some reason the charging over night stops and starts repeatedly - however if I put the car on max charge via the Ohme app this someone charges the car.....am I missing something here? Feel really thick :(

Sounds like your i5 is pulling a little "techy drama"😅 The timed charge and flap issues could be software glitches, and the resetting amps? Maybe it’s trying to keep you on your toes! I’d suggest getting in touch with the dealer and seeing if there’s a software update or reset that can straighten things out. Hopefully, it’s just a tech quirk and not a sign that your i5 wants to go on strike;)

Ugh, those charging gremlins are the worst! I've had my share of weird software glitches with EVs, and it sounds like youre i5 is having a full-on meltdown. The timed charge reverting and the amps resetting? That's definitely software. And the charging flap? Sounds like a sensor or actuator issue. It's frustratng, but with new EVs, these things happen. Dealer time for sure
