I want to share that I've been using a mirror tap for my radar detector in my i5, and it's been working great! This is actually the second car I've used it in, so I'm definitely getting my money's worth. I've got my radar detector mounted high and tight on the windshield, powered by the mirror tap.

Just a quick note: I've got my toll tag mounted on the driver's side because I'm saving the space on the other side for a dashcam.

Oh man, I used to have a radar detector. Well, guess what? They totally caught me, and I ended up shelling out a crazy amount of cash! lol

Lesson learned - never again, for real!

Ouch! That totally sucks! No one wants to fork over a ton of cash for that kind of stuff. Anyways, did you ever find it helpful before getting caught?

That sounds awesome, and curious. I’ve never used a mirror tap before, was it hard to install? Does it keep the setup looking clean? I’ve been thinking about getting a radar detector for my i5, and your setup sounds like the perfect combo.

That’s awesome.. I’ve heard mirror taps are super convenient, and it sounds like you’ve got the setup dialed in perfectly. Mounting the radar detector high and tight on the windshield is such a clean look, and it’s great that the mirror tap keeps things tidy with no dangling cords.

I like your approach with the toll tag and dashcam placement too keeping everything organized and functional. It’s cool that the mirror tap has held up through multiple cars; sounds like a worthwhile investmen.

I’ve used a mirror tap in my BMW i5, and it’s been pretty great...The install was easier than I expected, just a matter of carefully connecting the wires to the power source behind the mirror. It keeps everything super clean, with no visible cords dangling down the dash. Pairing it with a high-mounted radar detector makes the setup discreet and functional. If you decide to go for it, I’d recommend checking your specific mirror’s wiring guide, it makes the process smoother.
