I've been trying to figure out how to best use the pre-conditioning feature on my EV. I set my departure time for 7 AM and leave the car plugged in every night. Does it matter if I don't actually leave at 7 AM?

Also, my wall EVSE is set to charge between midnight and 6 AM to take advantage of the cheap electricity. Does pre-conditioning help with battery efficiency? I don't need climate control, just warming the battery.

Preconditioning your car can definitely give it a boost in cold weather and is super handy if you’re planning to hit up a DC fast charger. Just remember, preconditioning uses up some energy too, so you might not see huge savings on your electricity bill if you’re doing it all the time. Personally, I only bother with preconditioning when I’m about to charge up the car.

If you don't live somewhere freezing, you probably don't need to worry about pre-heating the battery before you charge. As long as it's not super cold outside, like above 60 or 70 degrees, you can just plug it in and let it charge at full power.
